FieldEx 2016

FieldEx Poster 1
2016 marked the eighth annual Field Exercise in Peace and Stability Operations (FieldEx). FieldEx is a kinetic field event simulating real-world conflicts that place student participants in civilian and military roles on the ground as the conflict plays out. This year’s FieldEx will be held from April 8-9, 2016.

2016 marked the eighth annual Field Exercise in Peace and Stability Operations (FieldEx). During this event, undergraduates took on different roles in a kinetic conflict situation, and they received guidance from advisors who worked in roles similar to theirs.
This scenario revolved around a resource conflict set in Antarctica.  There was a series of competing interest groups ranging from government officials to scientists and other non-combatants. The goal of the scenario is to understand the nature of conflict when there is an absence of traditional power structures. Participation entailed attending an orientation at the campsite on Friday night (the 8th) at North Kingstown United Methodist Church (450 Boston Neck Rd, North Kingstown, RI 02852) as well as the full simulation at Warzone Paintball Field (320 Shermantown Rd, Saunderstown, RI 02874) on Saturday. The simulation ended in the afternoon.
