ALLIES Applications

FieldEx

FieldEx is a kinetic conflict resolution simulation held by ALLIES every spring on a paintball field (think MUN + paintball). Past simulation scenarios have included drug cartel wars, secularizing monarchies, and a populist civil war. If you’re interested in helping plan FieldEx, please fill out this Google form. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED—we’d love anyone who’s interested!

Joint Research Project

ALLIES is thrilled to announce the 15th annual Joint Research Project (JRP), a cornerstone program of ALLIES that provides a unique and enriching experience for Tufts undergraduate students. During JRP, students from Tufts and the US Naval Academy design and research their own international relations questions while building a resume to support future career opportunities. This year, JRP will take place in Turkey from the end of May to the first two weeks of June, offering participants the chance to engage in discussions, conduct site visits, and explore security and civil-military issues in an integrated setting.

JRP is fully funded and cost should not be a deterrent to applying. All non-graduating students of any major are welcome to apply! Applications will close on January 30th 11:59 pm, 2024. Feel free to send any questions to director@alliescivmil.org! Selected applicants will be chosen for a follow-up interview. Take a look at the ALLIES JRP Blog from last summer’s trip to Singapore & Malaysia to get a better sense of the day-to-day activities. Additional information about JRP, including final papers from previous JRPs, can be found on our website.

Spring 2024 Events

FieldEx 2024

On Saturday, April 13th, ALLIES carried out its yearly paintball war-game simulation. From 9:00am to 3:00pm, over two dozen participants executed a kinetic exercise in diplomacy and conflict resolution. Members played in both rain and shine, and even pushed the bus out of the mud afterwards.

Graduate School Panel 2024

Our wonderful Freshman Representatives held the yearly Graduate School Panel in the evening of April 3rd. They invited two current Fletcher students, as well as a Fletcher Admissions representative, to give insight into application and selection process.

ALLIES UN Trip

ALLIES had the incredible opportunity to take 20 students to New York City for the weekend in early April. Thanks to the support of the IGL and Career Center, we were able to tour the UN, attend several briefings, and meet many Tufts and Fletcher alumni.

Leif Monnett: Autonomous Weapons Systems

ALLIES’ Speaker Series welcomed Leif Monnett, an ALLIES alumni turned AWS policy researcher at the UN. Leif shared his research on the proliferation of autonomous weapons systems with us, as well as the forecast for meaningful legislation in the next decade or so.
